In the various places I use my screenname, I've had a standing offer of cookies/$5/whatever to whomever knows where it comes from without Googling, etc. But nobody does. (Here's your chance to guess before I tell you! Quick, look away! AVERT YOUR EYES!)

Anyway, it comes from Edmund Spenser's The Faerie Queene, which is almost read as little as George MacDonald's amazing Phantastes. Both of which, by the by, are forerunners to Tolkien's LOTR and Lewis's Narnia series, and the second in particular is a remarkable book.

In searching to replace my previous user/nickname, I suddenly thought of a word or name but couldn't think of its origin. That was "Ragnell." I just liked the way it sounded, so I ran with it. I found out very quickly that the name is taken virtually everywhere. In games that have the option, I've often trended towards abilities that involve fire, so I looked up Latin terms to that effect... and came up with "Exuro."

In other places, it's "EX Ragnell." It's a reference to games like Guilty Gear and Capcom vs. SNK, in which alternate characters are indicated or referred to by having "EX" in front of their names.

I eventually plugged the name into Google to find where I'd heard "Ragnell" before... and it turns out to be the name of the sword Ike, of Fire Emblem fame, eventually uses. So, that's that.

I will not discuss my older name here, so don't even ask.

Somewhat unrelated to the stream, because I don't want to confuse anybody, I've been recently signing up for places as &main wherever I can and ptrMain if &main fails. My goal in life is to become a successful computer application developer and using the username "ptrMain" is a good way to seal my fate (because I'm nothing but a poser, otherwise :P ).

For those of you less technically inclined, in some programming languages, like C and C++, it becomes necessary to remember a spot in memory. For that, there are special variables called pointers that hold a memory address. Before today's developer tools, programmers had to do more work to keep track of what variables were what because if they mismatched them, something would likely break. So, a lot of them used what is known as Hungarian Notation, a convention that works by prefixing variable names with a couple of characters to tell what kind of variable it is. This has led to much criticism because this could lead to variable names like "a_crszkvc30LastNameCol". This is actually how it got its name.

Anyway, I needed something unique that represented me and my interests. All of my previous options were taken, so I kept searching potential usernames on Google. When I searched "prtMain", no user profiles showed up, so I snagged the name. So far, the only place I couldn't use ptrMain was Google, so I used strptrmain for it instead. I came up with this name using the Hungarian Notation for "pointer" and the standard C/C++ entry-point function, main. I later shortened this to &main for Steam and made some pretty avatars to go with it.
